As we had posted on our blog this past summer, children near Allahabad were eating clay to fend off hunger. Stop for a moment and try to realize the gravity of that statement. The level of poverty and helplessness of those children will sadden the wickedest of souls. But as it turns out from the revelations of the latest scandal from UP, the babus of the government and politicians are incapable of such empathy. These amoral living beings (can you really call them human?) need to be dragged in the streets and made to feel the same level of helplessness as those children. The latest scam though smaller than the 2G scam, is worth Rs. 2000 crores. In this scam, UP government officials (most probably IAS and PCS), politicians and businessmen, took the foodgrains meant for the poor and sold it in the open market in India and neighboring countries. It is not enough that food rots out in the open due to criminal neglect. These animals have to steal it from the poor so they can feed their perverted hunger for wealth. The Daily Pioneer claims that these maggots stole foodgrains worth Rs. 250 crores from Lakhimpur Kheri district alone. Is it possible for theft of this kind to happen with the top politicians and IAS / PCS officials being involved? Of course not! This happened during the Samajwadi and Bahujan Samajwadi party rule. Now both Maulana Mulayam Yadav and Behenji Mayawati are supposed to be the champions of the downtrodden. Now we know exactly whom they champion! The UP Chief Secretary Neera Yadav during Mulayam Yadav’s misrule has been sentenced to 4 years in jail for land grabbing and other kinds of robbery. This woman must really have broken records in theft because people from IAS or politician class never get sent to jail. When some hapless thief steals some small amount of money, he gets sent to jail with third degree treatment. But when you are an IAS officer or a politician you get transferred or change ministry or get sent to party high command.
Global Financial Integrity (GFI) program of the Washington-based Center for International Policy says more than $125 billion was spirited out of India during 2000-2008. The report also says the following which is mind boggling:
GFI, which tracks cross-border flows of illicit money that is "generally the product of corruption, bribery, kickbacks, criminal activities and efforts to shelter wealth from a country's tax authorities", says India cannot afford to ignore such massive leakages of funds.
"Had India managed to avoid this staggering loss of capital, the country could have paid off its outstanding external debt of $230.6 billion (at end 2008) and have another half left over for poverty alleviation and economic development," GFI said in the report "Drivers and Dynamics of Illicit Financial Flows from India: 1948-2008" released on November 16.
Since independence from British colonial rule in 1947, India has lost $462 billion, in a "conservative estimate". If gaps in statistics can be covered, the estimate could well reach half-a-trillion dollars, the report said.
In one of his articles as mentioned on one of Aam Admi blog posts, Rajeev Srinivasan says that the amount of money stolen by the British was (depending upon which historian you believed) to one to ten trillion dollars. Now post independence, Indians have continued that tradition and seem to be besting the Brits at raping India. We all heard about the trillion dollars ferreted away by politicians, babus and other crooks in Switzerland. There does not seem to be any effort by anyone to recover even part of that money. At the very least the government could offer amnesty to those thieves so that the money can come back to India and gets invested in the country rather than making those Swiss rich. But even that option is not on the table because the decision makers have their names to lose because they are the biggest thieves!!
Why are Indians (politicos and babus and other crooked business people) such big thieves? We all know that politicians are lowest of god’s creations. But what about the IAS and PCS officers? Most of them come from middle class families. Do they forget their own hard times? In my college days, I knew some of these men. They were good fellows. Either I am a poor judge of character or somewhere along the way their conscience died. Bholenath only knows how and when that happens.
We live in a democracy and thus we have to patiently wait for the law to take its course. Being Hindus we can always wait for Bholenath to open his third eye. These people are lucky to be in India. If this were China, people like Neera Yadav would have been executed and their internal organs harvested. Now that is a thought!
