Chidambaram and India's Leaky Security

It has been more than two years since the Mumbai attacks. That attack which killed people who mattered unlike numerous other which killed the aam aadmi. One would have thought that after Mumbai attacks and getting rid of the “spectacularly incompetent” Shivraj Patil, we would have tightened our belt. After all, the infinitely more capable P Chidambaram is now the sheriff. The alumnus of Loyola College and Harvard University was supposed to fix our leaky security.

Emboldened by the US success in Abottabad, our people also started to feel tough. They talked tough and they walked tough. They felt it was time to push Pakistan into a corner. So we submitted a list of 50 terrorists hiding in Pakistan and hoped that forced by defeat in Abottabad and under the influence of Biryani from Mohali, the Pakistanis would relent and surrender these men. If this act was not one of absolute desperation, it was compounded by abject incompetence. It turns out that out of the fifty, two guys were living in India. Talk about an ostrich egg in our faces!

Of course instead of apology, what we get are poor attempts at deflecting blames. How representative of the UPA government. Nothing is ever their fault. How could this have happened? Well other than the abject incompetence of the Babus, we have couple of other reasons.

a. The home ministry is never interested in going after Indian Muslims who help the Pakistani terrorists. In the aftermath of the 26/11 attacks, how many India helpers were arrested? Are we to believe that the pakis did all that without any local logistics help?

b. The home minister has been busy coming up with original terms like saffron terror and arresting all those Hindu terrorists. He does not have time for the real terrorists. Arrest of Hindu terrorists makes the Muslim vote bank and the secularists / leftists happy. If the home minister and his babus are to be believed the biggest threats to Indian security are Sadhvi Pragya and others. Of course if the potato gets too hot, some IAS officer will come out and swear that Bhai Narendra Modi was actually sharpening knives the day after Godhra train station massacre!

It is too much to ask the UPA ministers to do the honorable thing. God forbid if any of them should accept any blame for the never-ending saga of corruption and incompetence. I guess we can thank all those who voted for the UPA / Congress and continue to do so.

A Shoddy Counter-Terrorism Data-Base
By B. Raman
More than two years after the 26/11 terrorist strikes in Mumbai and the setting-up of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the Government of India continues to have a shoddy counter-terrorism data-base. That is the inevitable conclusion from the current controversy over an embarrassing professional and diplomatic faux pas relating to the alleged inclusion of the name of Wazhul Kamar Khan, a terrorism suspect living on bail with his family in Thane in Maharashtra, in a list of 50 terrorism suspects allegedly enjoying sanctuary in Pakistan.

Another man in India's most wanted list for Pak in Mumbai
In an embarrassing goof-up, another man named in India's Most Wanted list of terrorists allegedly hiding in Pakistan was found to be in a a Mumbai jail facing trial in the 1993 serial blasts case. Listed in the dossier as criminal No.24, Feroze Abdul Rashid Khan has been shown as an accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case along with the absconding mafia don Dawood Ibrahim. But it came to be known that Feroz Khan was actually in Mumbai's fortified Arthur Road Central Jail and facing trial, official sources said.
